French Harbour provides an ability to interact with Iguanas, Macaws, Monkeys, and Sloths. Arch's Iguana and Marine Park, Daniel Johnson's Monkey and Sloth Hang Out, or AJ's Monkeys and Sloths, which are located in front of Little French Key, are the perfect places to make these unique activities come true. French Harbour is always an excellent place to stay in with fair prices and comfortable area with many destinations to visit. It is quite an adventure in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Roatan.
A small contingent of French buccaneers (forerunners of the pirates) arrived on Roatan on or around 1510. By all accounts, they were the first Europeans known to have set foot on our island. These early pioneers spent some time in what is now the French Harbour, giving the current town its name - Come visit us.
French Harbour is a specific area in the Bay Islands, surrounded by many access points like the airport and different boat anchorage points, located 45 minutes from West Bay and West End. French Harbour is one of the oldest neighborhoods of all the Bay Islands. Come explore this beautiful community.
French Harbour has picturesque commercial ports where many of the islands' fishing, lobster, and shrimp fleet. Many of the boats are well kept and properly maintained. French Harbour is a very active fishing community. You can even see the Trujillo Mountains on the mainland from French Harbour.

French Harbour is Roatan's third-largest community, with approximately 3,000 fixed inhabitants and a high floating population. It is one of Roatan's most active fishing communities as well with many of Roatan's commercial vessels docking in and around the waters of French Harbour.
Offerings.
There are several fine resorts, hotels, gas stations, supermarkets, villas, and restaurants in and around French Harbour, which are frequented by tourists and residents year-round. A little known fact is that there are more banks in French Harbour than in Coxen Hole. The only Mall on Roatan is located in French Harbour, and that alone invites residents from all across the Bay Islands. The Mega Plaza Mall enjoys some of Roatan's most visited restaurants, coffee shops, barbershops, beauty salons, clothing stores, appliances, and electronics stores, and the Mall is home to Roatan's private hospital, CEMESA.
Transportation.
It is easier to get to know the island by land, there are several rental car agencies around the island and close to the French Harbour, but there are public and private taxis and buses as well. However, most of the hotels will arrange roundtrip transportation for you before your arrival. We should mention that Honduras' currency is the Lempira, but most establishments accept US currency, including transport drivers.

On the island of Roatan, there is a lot to see and do, but in this part of the island, there are unique activities such as water sports, diving, getting to know one of the best zoos, interaction with animals, golf, beautiful resorts with pools and stunning views of the island. Golf lovers, French Harbour, has an 18-hole championship golf course, The Black Pearl, designed by Pete Dye, the world-famous golfer, located in Pristine Bay, a stunning resort surrounded by Caribbean pristine waters and a green hillside. It is the only luxury golf resort on the entire island of Roatan. Nearby, a tourist center, Parrot Tree Beach Resort, which includes the construction of a 5-star hotel, condominiums, residences, and a marina, with a small cove. Lets not forget about Fantasy Island Resort, which can only be accessed via a single bridge from Roatan. Fantasy Island is surrounded by tropical forest and gardens that host more than 54 species of exotic animals, including iguanas, monkeys, parrots, black hawks, ducks, geese, peacocks and more.

The villas are located in a business area, close to Daniel Johnson's Monkey and Sloth Hang Out. The short 10-minute car ride leads to Arch's Iguana and Marine Park. These accommodations are located near a tropical beach where guests will find bars and restaurants, and it is located 5 minutes from Little French Key and Big French Key.
Family Friendly.
French Harbour has a wide variety of gourmet, contemporary casual, family-style, and fast-food restaurants where tourists can enjoy meat cuts, seafood, burgers, pizzas, vegetarians delights, and more. The most popular places to eat in the area are Romeo's Restaurant located in front of the French Harbour bay with the option of being outdoors or indoors; it is a special place with excellent gourmet food and personalized service. Gio's Restaurant, awarded one of the top 30 Tourist Marvels of Honduras for being the first to make a dish focused on the Spiny Caribbean King Crab.
The Buccaneer.
French Harbour has one of the best family destinations to relax in The Buccaneer. The Buccaneer is an Eco-Friendly Beer bar, Coffee Shop, Swim Club, and a French Harbour Heritage Society hub. There is an exhibition about the rich history of Roatan on the second floor, which has abundant information about Roatan's history. Be sure to stop by the Turtle Centre, Souvenirs Shop, and enjoy a Pizza or Burger at this spectacular place. Other famous restaurants you can find in French Harbour are Herby's Sports Bar and Grill, located in Clarion Suites, known as the best sports bar in Honduras, Bojangles, Pizza Inn, Roatan's famous Conch Fritters and more.
Little French Key.
If you are thinking about what activities you can do in this community, we mention the most popular and fun for all ages and nature lovers. If you want to relax or want a massage, consider a visit to Little French Key. They offer world-class snorkeling, spectacular views, and fun all in one place. Little French Key is a private cay that has a lot of activities to offer, starting with the rescued animal tour where you will see tigers, lions, and jaguars. This place makes you be surrounded by pure nature with peacocks around you. If you would like to interact with some of them, you have the option to add the mini pig interaction, which is inside the sea, hold monkeys, horseback riding, and choose several water sports activities. For diving enthusiasts, LFK has a dive shop at Frenchy's 44, before crossing over to the Key.
Besides Little French Key tourist destination, French Harbour also has Big French Key, located a quarter of a mile from the mainland, opposite Little French Key. This beautiful cay was used for a program for children with learning disabilities during the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. Today, the island has undergone an extensive renovation with many and fun activities to offer to those who visit it. It is a must-see place in the community.
